21 Scary Things Big Data Knows About You

What does big data know about  you ? Quite a lot. Every time we use a computer, access our phones, or open an app on a tablet, we’re leaving a digital trail. Most people are vaguely aware that Google knows what they’ve searched for, or that Facebook knows who their friends are, but it goes much, much deeper than that. I’ve compiled a list of 21 things  Big Data  knows about almost every one of us — right now: Of course,  Google knows what you’ve searched for . So do Bing, Yahoo!, and every other search engine. And your ISP knows every website you’ve ever visited. Ever (even in private browsing). Google also knows your age and gender  — even if you never told them. They make a pretty comprehensive ads profile of you, including a list of your interests (which you can edit) to decide what kinds of ads to show you. Facebook knows when your relationship is going south.  Based on activities and status updates on Facebook, the company can predict (with scary accuracy) whether or

Galaxy S7 Has A Serious Performance Problem

Do you know what the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have in abundance? Speed. And yet do you know what is set to cause the biggest problems for both these phones? Speed…    The problem comes down to one key thing: inconsistency. In new benchmarks  published  by respected speed testing software Antutu, the company found CPU performance varied by a perfectly acceptable 5% but the difference in graphics performance between models was as great as 32%. So what causes this? In short: Samsung’s decision to use different chipsets in different Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge phones around the world. Snapdragon 820 equipped Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones have dramatically better GPU performance than Exynos 8890 versions. Image credit: Antutu Unlike the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which only used Samsung’s Exynos 7420 chipset, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are split between the Exynos 8890 (the 7420 successor) in some regions and  Qualcomm   QCOM +1.23% ’s Snapdragon 820 in others. Like a fish

I started taking swimming lessons because I wanted to become a good swimmer. Initially, I thought swimming was easy, but it was not so. I cried on the first two days. I began swimming lessons in the three feet pool and learnt how to float. After two days, I learnt how to flap my legs and then moved on to the five feet pool. Now, I am a good swimmer. I have even got an annual membership in the club. Easy steps to learn: 1. Believe you can do it. 2. Practise — it makes one perfect. 3. Start small and then move toward bigger things. Step-by-step progress will bring out great possibilities in you. I felt ecstatic that I am finally able to swim.

Why We Burn Out In The Workplace And Why It Matters

Most of us are familiar with the research that details how employees lack a sense of engagement in the workplace.  Gallup surveys consistently show  that only about one-third of all employees feel engaged in their work. Among the factors contributing to engagement, according to Gallup, are being able to do what you do best, having a voice in the workplace, and having someone at work who encourages your development. Without such engagement, productivity-- and ultimately business performance --suffer. In a recent article , I suggested that disengagement in the workplace is not just a function of poor management practices, but also the absence of positive emotional experience connected to our work. Burnout occurs when four key components of well-being are absent from our daily experience: Joy - The experience of happiness and pleasure; Satisfaction - The experience of doing meaningful things; Energy - The experience of excitement and optimism; Relationships - The experience

The 5 Characteristics of True Entrepreneurs

Most entrepreneurs are cut from the same ambitious, risk-taking cloth. Foregoing the stability of a 9-to-5 job is certainly not for everyone. If you own a business or are thinking about creating one, you’re probably curious about what sets entrepreneurs apart from everyone else. Below are five traits that typically unite entrepreneurs. 1. Your business is your dream. For many people, simply having a rewarding job is enough. Some of the most ambitious individuals, men and women intent on reaching the top of their chosen fields,  aren’t necessarily entrepreneurial-minded . There’s nothing wrong with craving the stability that comes from working for someone else. But to be an entrepreneur, the motivation needs to come from within. Creating something from scratch requires unwavering belief in yourself and your business. Your goals for your business and your dreams for your life need to be, if not one and the same, then intertwined. Otherwise, it’s hard to find the will to keep

6 Skills of Self-Made Millionaires That You Should Be Using, Too

Heed the advice of those who have reaped success. Here are six skills used by self-made millionaires that you should be using and building upon each day. 1. Be able to identify fruitful opportunities. Carlos Slim Helu, Mexican business magnate and philanthropist, said, “When there is a crisis, that’s when some are interested in getting out, and that’s when we are interested in getting in.” Learn to identify open doors when they appear, then consider the risks and weigh them against potential benefits. An opportunity can be a great one regardless of whether no one or everyone is rushing to grab it -- if no one is, that’s your cue to move forward; if everyone is, that’s your chance to prove you’re better than the rest. 2. Focus on actions over words. “Actions speak louder than words,” supposedly, and the late Andrew Carnegie agreed. As his career grew, he said, “As I grow older, I pay less attention to what men say. I just watch what they do.” Understand that a shinin
