Assessment of State Implementation of Business Reforms

  A report titled “Assessment of State Implementation of Business Reforms” was released today. This report captures the findings of an assessment of reform implementation by states, led by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, with support of the World Bank Group and KPMG as the knowledge partner, and facilitated by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). This assessment, the first of its kind, has been conducted to take stock of reforms implemented by states in the period January 1 to June 30, 2015 based on the 98-point action plan for business reforms agreed between DIPP and state and Union territory governments on December 29, 2014.  “What this report does very well is to provide a roadmap for states serious about improving their business environment and creating jobs. World Bank ranks Andhra Pradesh second in ease of doing business

One year after the bifurcation of the state, Andhra Pradesh seems to have made an impact through its investor-friendly initiatives . One year after the bifurcation of the state, Andhra Pradesh seems to have made an impact through its investor-friendly initiatives. The World Bank report on Ease of Doing Business has ranked AP 2nd, below Gujarat. Andhra Pradesh is ranked in the category of ‘Aspiring Leaders’ which means the overall implementation status should be between 50 to 75 per cent. Seven states – Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan are part of this group.  Highlighting the good practices of the state, the report states: “ Single Desk Policy 2015-20 of the Government of Andhra Pradesh has been formulated to create a facilitative ecosystem to provide all clearances/approvals within 21 working days to set up an industry. All relevant competent authorities are mandated to receive applications and process the same
