9 Phrases Smart People Never Use In Conversation

We’ve all said things that people interpreted much differently than we thought they would. These seemingly benign comments lead to the awful feeling that only comes when you’ve planted your foot firmly into your mouth. Verbal slip-ups often occur because we say things without knowledge of the subtle implications they carry. Understanding these implications requires  social awareness —the ability to pick up on the emotions and experiences of other people. TalentSmart  has tested the emotional intelligence (EQ) of more than a million people and discovered that social awareness is a skill in which many of us are lacking. We lack social awareness because we’re so focused on what we’re going to say next—and how what other people are saying affects us—that we completely lose sight of other people. This is a problem because people are complicated. You can’t hope to understand someone until you focus  all  of your attention in his or her direction. The beauty of social

Google and Microsoft have totally different approaches to computing than Apple

In about two years, Android will look completely different. According to the Wall Street Journal , Google plans to merge Android with Chrome OS, its operating system for laptops called Chromebooks. When that happens, Android will be Google's unified operating system that runs on just about any device. Right now, Android runs on phones, tablets, smartwatches, TVs, smart appliances, and infotainment systems in cars, to name a few. Computers are the missing link. If that approach sounds familiar, that's because it's the same one Microsoft introduced this year with the launch of Windows 10. Windows 10 is designed to run on practically anything with a screen. (Phones, computers, TVs, and even the Xbox One.) But the unified operating system idea isn't an option at Apple - at least not yet. Apple still has two major separate operating systems, iOS (for iPhones and iPads) and Mac OS X (for laptops and desktop computers). And Apple wants to keep it that way.

Even as Tim Cook says Apple is focussing on India for the long term, it’s facing consumer heat given high costs of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

Not only consumers but even Apple is quite unhappy about the pricing of its iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which launched in India on October 16. The high cost of the phones, given foreign exchange fluctuations, have had an impact on their sales. However, Apple said it wants to make long term investments in the country. A reason why, the impact of the high costs of the new models and their harsh impact on demand is being viewed seriously by the company top brass. "We've adjusted some prices around the world for the launch of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus... Obviously when we increase prices around the world, it's normal to see some impact on sales rates," Apple's CFO told ET. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are available in India between Rs 62,000 and Rs 92,000 depending on memory and model. This pricing is nearly Rs 9, 000 more than the last year's launch price of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and also Rs 14,000-16,000 costlier than their prices in global markets.

13 Things Successful People Do In The Last 10 Minutes Of The Workday

1. They update their to-do lists. Successful professionals always keep an eye on their ever-changing to-do lists, Taylor explains. "But the last 10 minutes is when they also check their final progress against that day's objectives," she says. "They revise their final list accordingly while in the moment, rather than abruptly leave and hoping they'll remember all the nuances of that day in the morning." 2. They organize their desk and desktop. Your projects take much longer to complete when you're not organized. "Having an orderly desktop and desk will help you think more clearly and prioritize more effectively. It'll also help you quickly find important documents when you need them," says Taylor. "File digital and hard copy documents for easier access and greater efficiency when you need them next." 3. They review what they achieved. Taylor says in addition to focusing on what yo
