3 Reasons Holacracy Isn't a Good Fit for Most Businesses

When Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh  announced  that his 1,500-person company was going to adopt a “holacracy” model, many people were left wondering what the heck holacracy even is. According to  HolacracyOne , this “boss free” business philosophy focuses on a less structured system with roles -- as opposed to concrete job descriptions -- and on self-organization and arranged teams that concentrate on specific operations or goals. While this term may be a new piece of business jargon, structures similar to it have existed for years. Derived from the Greek “holon” -- meaning something that’s both a whole and a part -- the setup isn’t without its pitfalls. In the best-case scenario, a holacracy will tap into employees aptitude and drive, but  models can flop  after a few months of use -- it can even drive your best talent away. Still, Hsieh cites the speed and flexibility of the holacracy model as a key element of Zappos’ ongoing success.  “When companies get bigger, innovation or pr

The Park will house a common manufacturing facility centre to act as a hub for the SME sector enabling it to flourish as a cluster. The exact location of the park is yet to be decided. How China Will Handle The World's Biggest Supply Of Malls

China’s retail sales more than tripled from 6.7 trillion yuan in 2005 to 27 trillion yuan in 2014, helping to create one of the world’s largest consumer markets, according to government statistics. Along with this three-fold growth in consumption came a corresponding expansion in retail space – new malls and shopping centes in a country that had previously done its shopping along local street fronts and at state-owned stores. This economic transformation fostered retail real estate giants such as Dalian Wanda, which made Wang Jianlin China’s richest man, with  a fortune estimated by the latest Forbes China Rich List at $30 billion . However, many observers expect that this boom may also have caused a massive misallocation of resources, especially as growth in retail sales has begun to taper in recent years. Now, real estate consultancy JLL estimates that China is looking at a bulging pipeline of more than 40 million square metres in new mall space expected to enter the mark

Creating Value By Awaking A Sleeping Brand

When I first read about Pearl River Piano, it was a story about an acquisition of a famous German piano maker named Ritmüller that helped Pearl River to advance in the premium segment. Yet, there was a little problem: Ritmüller was supposed to be from the city of Göttingen and even though I had lived there for five years, I had never heard the name. So, I called an expert on the German music industry, and he hadn’t heard about the company either. Now I was intrigued, and did what professors do when the facts don’t fit: I dug into the archives. It turns out the real story is much more interesting. In the archives, I found that  Ritmüller piano factories  were established in 1795, and had a strong run in the 19 th  century when they were one of the most prestigious brands in Germany. In fact, the man who later founded Steinway & Sons New York spent his apprentice years with Ritmüller. Yet the German brand went bankrupt in the financial crisis of  1929 . On e-bay, historical piano
