Windows 10 Upgrade to Become Automatic as a 'Recommended Update' in 2016

Microsoft is willing to go to great length to get you to upgrade to Windows 10. The company says that starting next year, every Windows 7 or Windows 8 user will see Windows 10 as a "recommended update" on their computer. The company also shared some changes it plans to make on how updates are sent to Windows 10 computers. Last month the company began to push Windows 10 to some Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users as an "optional update". The company now says that starting in 2016, everyone using the aforementioned old versions of its software will see Windows 10 as a "recommended update". Depending on the user's Windows Update setting, the upgrade process will begin automatically, but the final switch between the new and old OS will only be flipped by the user, explains the blog post titled 'Making It Easier to Upgrade to Windows 10'. "A user will be presented with a choice to install Windows 10," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's hea

India to Have 9 Crore 4G Customers by FY 2018: Report

India is expected to have 9 crore 4G subscribers and 18 crore 4G smartphones by 2018 and Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular will gain from this growth if Reliance Jio Infocomm delays the launch of its 4G services, says a report by Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofA ML). "We expect 4G smartphone base to jump from 5 million in FY 2015 to 180 million (18 crores) by FY 2018, leading to 4G subscribers accelerating from almost zero in FY 2016 to 90 million (9 crores) by FY 2018," a report by BoFA ML research analysts Sachin Salgaonkar, Karan Parmanandka and Simon Dong-je Woo said. In next few years, there will be marginal difference between 3G and 4G tariffs as well as there will be decline in smartphone prices that may lead 2G subscribers leapfrog to 4G services and skip 3G, analysts expect. "We expect 4G net adds to be faster than 3G net adds by FY 2019 and estimate 3G subscribers to be largely restricted in areas where 4G coverage is limited. "Howev

Facebook's reply to the 'open letter' on 'real name' policy

Facebook is tweaking its 'real name' policy. The policy, which has been termed 'inherently discriminatory' by some, will see some alterations to allow users to explain their name choices. The policy has received criticism mostly from members of the LGBT communities and advocates who face problems and feel uncomfortable using their real names due to the nature of their work. According to Facebook's 'real name' policy, users should go by their 'authentic name' when on the social network rather than a pseudonyms. These changes will help people who face this problem provide clearer context to their wishes to keep a different name. Facebook is expected to roll out the policy in December. Explaining the changes and the reason behind the policy, Alex Schultz, VP, growth Facebook, said in a letter, "We want to reduce the number of people who are asked to verify their name on Facebook, when they are already using the name people know them by

The next stage: The evolving face of theatre in India

Actors, dancers and directors are breaching the barriers of high and low art, drawing from traditional classical performances to tell their stories In Mālavikāgnimitram, one of the first plays he wrote, Sanskrit poet Kalidasa (4th-5th century AD) evoked the sublime power of drama, describing it as a beautiful visual sacrifice for the gods. He ends a shloka with: “Natyam bhinna rucherjanasya bahuopyekam samaradhanam.” This translates to: “Drama is the single (unique) means of pleasing people of different tastes in many ways.” Did the poet realise that his words would resonate with Indian thespians more than 15 centuries later? Across the country, actors and directors, poets and playwrights, dancers and musicians are finding new ways to tell their stories on stage. And while they may rely on complex light and sound design, props and extravagant backdrops, the power of their theatre remains as pure as it was during Kalidasa’s time: It is cathartic. It is entertaining. And it shine

How This Small Business Is Tackling Poverty And Paying Its Employees Twice The Minimum Wage

This Pennsylvania-based  business  says that the minimum wage in the state is a “poverty wage.”  Instead, they’re opting to pay their employees nearly twice that. The Lancaster Food Company  was started last year by Charlie Crystle and Craig Lauer, an entrepreneur and a foodie, respectively.  They sell breads, seed butters, salsas, and maple syrup — all organic and all local.  But aside from serving up high quality food, the duo want to solve some serious social issues in the area. Lancaster City has a high poverty rate.  About 30%, Crystle and Lauer say.  While their business alone can’t feed all those individuals, the two want to use their company to show that local businesses can help change that.  So, they’re opting to hire folks who come from low-income backgrounds.  But they’re going beyond the minimum wage, by offering them a starting hourly rate of $14 an hour plus paid time off and benefits. “We feel people who put in a full day of work should get a full day’s pa
